• Use your Intuition to Focus you on what to De-clutter in your Life
Your intuition knows what to do in practically every situation. I would love for you to learn to trust those hunches / gut instincts.
Think about your home. Walk around slowly and observe:
- The parts of your home that you enjoy being in – the parts that make your body feel relaxed and comfortable and at ease, and then
- The parts of your home that fill you with heaviness – a slightly unhappy feeling.
Listen to your intuition – it will tell you which parts it isn’t happy with and which objects are bringing your energy down.
You can listen to your intuition with people as well – even friends.
Are there people in your life who deplete your energy? It may be that the relationship has run its course, that these friends are making too many demands, wearing you out, and draining you. Now is the time to minimize or eliminate the amount of time you spend with these people. Clear space in your life for the people who refresh you!
The other type of space you will want to clear out is mental clutter.
What weighs on your mind? Your mind can be filled with thinking about the phone call you keep putting off making, worrying about your children, worrying about the economy, what to make for dinner that night, the pile of unanswered emails or even what you are procrastinating on. All these things and many more, can weigh heavily on your mind and eat away at your energy. Start by clearing out the things you cannot do anything about. (E.g. other people’s behaviour, the economy). Then make a list of the things you can control. By writing them down you will not feel like you have to remember all of them at all times. Prioritize what you will start on first. When you start accomplishing these things you will automatically feel a sense of relief!
Listen to your intuition, trust it and act on it.
• Have a System
For your physical items, create bins for items to: Donate, Throw out, and Keep. Have these bins handy at all times. Take away the Donate and Throw out items regularly – it feels so great when you do!
• Commit to the Process
Simply choose to make a change everyday. Start slowly – 10 minutes a day / one bag of items a day – the momentum will build.
• Focus on a Contained Task
It may be the kitchen drawer, medicine cabinet, or a desk drawer. Stick with it until it is completed. Focus your thoughts as well. Stop your mind from getting cluttered thinking about the other areas that need to be de-cluttered. Focus on the progress that you are making with this task.
• Think about Getting Someone to Help You
It could be a friend or a professional organizer. It will be more companionable and it will move you into action. In the nicest possible way, other people can be ruthless about chucking out your bits of paper and objects and they can spur you on.
• Be Positive
Savour that you are taking a pro-active, leadership role in your life. You are helping other people create better lives for themselves with the items that you donate. Remember that as soon as you let go, you will have the energy and space in your life to create a life that you love!
“There is nothing so fatiguing as the eternal hanging on of an uncompleted task”
William James
